Soup In A Jar
Who wouldn't love a homemade gift of Soup In A Jar! Just layer the ingredients in Mason Jar, attach the simple directions on a pretty card and place some ribbon around the top. It makes a great get well soon gift.
1/3 cup beef bouillon granules
1/2 cup dry split peas
1/4 cup pearl barley
1/2 cup dry lentils
1/4 cup dried onion flakes
2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
1/2 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
2 bay leaves
1/2 cup uncooked alphabet pasta
In a 1 1/2 pint jar**, layer each of the ingredients in order. The boullion granules go in the bottom of the jar then the split peas, etc.
Attach a decorative card to the jar with the following instructions:
Friendship Soup ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: 1 pound ground beef, 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes - undrained, 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste, and 3 quarts water, black pepper and garlic powder to taste.TO PREPARE SOUP: Remove pasta from the jar. Set aside. In a large pot over medium heat, brown beef with the black pepper and garlic; drain. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, water, and the soup mix (minus the pasta). Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes. Stir in the pasta, cover, and simmer another 15 to 20 minutes, or until everything is tender.
**26 ounce store bought spaghetti sauce jars work nicely...just soak off the label.
